This was the first children’s book I’ve ever seen about Pride, and it was WONDERFUL. For on this day in June, it doesn’t matter who you are, what you look like, or whom you love all that matters is that you come and be proud of who you are, inside and out. Some of them look different, some are dressed in their own way, but all of them are there to celebrate one thing: unity. ![]() ![]() A celebration is happening, complete with a special parade! As the parade begins, people of all kinds march down the street: women on motorcycles, people dressed in rainbows and waving flags, musicians and performers and children and animals. ![]() ![]() The bite is as sharp as it was in the early 80's, when I first read the book. I was pleasantly disappointed (a contradiction that might have pleased Heller). I returned to this modern classic not really expecting it to live up to my memory of its bite, cleverness and the inventive use of the absurd. And it's the most hillarious book you'll ever have read to you. ![]() It contains all the absurdity and horror of war. ![]() No-one acts rationally except Yossarian (and he's crazy). Scenes jump in the middle of conversations. If you don't know the book, it details the story of Yoissarian's attempt to stay alive in a world that doesn't make sense, where people are trying to kill him and the rules are against him. If you know the book and love it, you will love the Audiobook. It is clear, easy to understand and the character voices are mostly the same as I hear in my head. It is my favourite book that I come back to reread every few years but this audiobook will change all that - now I can have the book read to me every few months. Y'all, the writing of this story is incredibly strong. The story follows Nick and his absolutely phenomenal friend group, as he sets his sights on starting a relationship with Shadow Star, even if that means he'll need to become Extraordinary in order to do so. Frequently battling his arch nemesis, Pyro Storm, the two often leave destruction in their wake. His biggest crush, Shadow Star, is currently one of the active Extraordinaries within the city.
